To Tweet or Not To Tweet…?

So January is over and I have to say I am very relieved.  It is always my worst month of the year, I hate the cold weather, money is tight after the Christmas and I have usually over-indulged on food and drink so I have to detox and diet… Of course, this year, I have had a re-brand to organise and a new website to build, which I have to say, has proved far harder than I ever could have imagined!

I am very excited that February is here, the re-brand has been exceptionally well received and our new website is launching on Monday 7th February.  We have been featured in so many local newspapers and magazines that I have become a celebrity at my weekly dance classes (highly embarrassing, I even cut my hair as a disguise!).  Agreement Magazine, which is our lettings industry publication (http://www.arla.co.uk/publications/magazine.aspx), put us on the front page and I was inundated with emails from other companies wishing me good luck with the new brand.

Having been told too many times that social media is the way forward I have been learning all about ‘Tweeting’ so that I can pass on my wealth of knowledge to the team.  I have set up a twitter account @sewellgardner and I am gradually building up the following (so please make sure you follow us if you are also into this current phenomenon), with the help of both the sales and lettings teams.

By trial and error I am learning the rules:  No ‘spamming’ or direct marketing allowed; say what you feel and don’t think too much about it (or you probably won’t do it); re-tweet interesting tweets from others or internet articles you have found useful and would like to pass on; use the direct message facility if you don’t want the world to know what you are saying; follow back if you can; keep it light-hearted and quite personal so that others get to know who you are and what you are all about…

The downside to this Twitter malarkey is that when I wake in the middle of the night, I have to resist taking a little peek at my phone, because there are so many ‘tweets’ to read, I end up spending the next 2 hours reading and not sleeping.  I could end up sleep deprived at this rate.

If you haven’t tried it yet, get yourself an account @ www.twitter.com and be warned, it can be highly addictive!
